For all the seasons and right reasons
Lord Dalhousie must have been enamoured by these environs. Afterall it was he who constructed the historic Hindustan-Tibet Road back in 1850 which brought this idyllic Himalayan town on the map.
Mashobra, Shimla’s quieter cousin, is perfect in any weather. The summer is warm with a little nip in the air while the monsoon transforms this area into a romantic green paradise. The winter, albeit freezing, comes with its own charm, turning Mashobra into a white wonderland.
With four rooms that can sleep a total of nine guests, The Nomad Nest is a cosy, ultra-modern and dreamy homestay in the midst of raw nature. The rooms are plush, equipped with luxurious beds and big windows with views-to-die-for. The bathrooms are tastefully decorated – one even has a bathtub with a large window so that you can unwind in the serenity of the mountains.
This Unhotel prides itself in being environmentally-friendly – it mostly relies on rainwater harvesting, solar energy and even has its own compost pit that feeds the vegetable garden.
Enjoy long days in the beautiful garden running along one side of the Unhotel, doing yoga or sleeping on the beckoning deck chairs. If you are a die-hard romantic, spend the evenings by the fire cauldron watching the flames dance under the starry sky.
At The Nomad Nest, be prepared for a sensory overload with delightful Himachali and Kashmiri dishes. And of course, the lovely hostess will dish out delicious meals to keep your bellies full.
For those who get hungry at the dead of night, The Nomad Nest has ‘The Secret’ – a snack pack that is concealed in a different place everyday – a treasure hunt of kinds!
Although we encourage switching off, this Unhotel has WiFi. The best part is you needn’t leave your beloved furry friends at home – bring them along with you for a perfect vacation.
Book lovers will enjoy the extensive library at this Unhotel. Most books have been lovingly curated on various travels. For those who are perpetually confused with what to read, try a ‘blind date’ with a book – the library has a collection of books covered in brown paper – who knows, you might just fall in love!
Mashobra is a hiker’s delight. There are a ton of nature trails to go on here that will take you through small hamlets, steep mountainsides and (always) gorgeous views. And if you want to make it into a picnic, let the hostess know and she will whip up a delicious basket of cookies.
They also have two professional mountain bikes, golf equipment which can be used to play at Naldehra designed by Lord Curzon.
Why not spend a morning indulging in self-care? Take the yoga mats to the beautiful garden and practice some asanas in the midst of nature.
Nestled amidst the greenery of the Himalayas, this Unhotel aims to unburden the traveller with dreamy views of mountains as far as the eye can see, a bright blue unpolluted sky and a rustic, sleepy town vibe – all just a few miles from Shimla.
Ideal for the romantics, the writers, the poets, the artists or those looking for solitude. For those who’d love to pull themselves out of the harsh realities of life and cuddle up in the arms of the mountains. Pet mommies and daddies will love this place since it is pet-friendly.
Not recommended for those looking for a typical Shimla experience or a cookie-cutter hotel vacation. Not for those whose idea of a getaway is solely visiting famous sites.
