Far away from the hustle bustle of city life, away from shopping malls, traffic-choked roads, crowds of people and polluted air lies this beautiful homestay, promising solace to those who care to wander.
Winding roads will guide you back in the arms of nature; pine and oak forests will serve as your natural air fresheners; the chirping of the birds will be your music; and hours of exploration of the forests and wildlife will serve as your entertainment.
Unwind, unplug and be free.
This Unhotel believes in the mantra of basic comfort meets responsible eco-tourism. Two lovingly handcrafted stone wall cottages are nestled in the midst of uninterrupted forests, each is furnished with comfortable beds and attached bathrooms with running hot water. Both the cottages are located at two different ends of the estate, creating a private haven in the wilderness.
A set-up for two, the first cottage lies on a ridge that looks upon the spectacular Corbett Tiger Reserve. It’s cozy sit-out is ideal for a romantic candlelit dinner under the stars, a bonfire in cold winter nights or to enjoy a spectacular sunset round the year.
The second cottage is located above the paths criss crossing the estate, giving you a feeling of complete seclusion from the world. Ideal for reading your favourite book, spending some time with the family or catching up on some much needed ‘me-time’.
While you soak in the serenity and tranquility of Home on the Ridge, let your taste buds relish an equally heavenly gastronomic experience. The menu includes mouth-watering dishes prepared with fresh produce from the gardens and the jungle. Bite unto some hot bread straight from the oven, fingerlicking preserves and a neverending stream of hot chai. Don’t feel too guilty, all the walks and treks will help you burn off the calories.
This Unhotel has a central kitchen, bar and dining area where you can enjoy your morning cuppa and absolutely scrumptious hearty meals.
Since Home on the Ridge is located on the fringes of a forest reserve, please note that cell phone connectivity is limited here. There is also no internet. Most of our guests love this.
As an eco-friendly Unhotel we follow certain guidelines in preserving the environment which is why we don’t have electricity in the cottages although there are enough candles and torches to last your stay. Charging stations are located in the dining area.
We don’t recommend that you walk outside the premises after dark since there this is Corbett tiger country. We also recommend that you preserve the silence of the mountains and refrain from playing loud music that would disturb the original residents of the jungle.
You can enjoy the in-house library that has a modest but fine collection of books, especially those related to mountains.
Home on the Ridge has a beautiful orchidarium with a variety of native local and exquisite orchids, ideal for those who love gardening.
There is a lot to do here. Trek down to the spot where the famous Mohan the Maneater was shot (as Jim Corbett recounted it in his famous book), try to spot all 250 species of birds here, set camera traps to ‘capture’ the wildlife, try your hand at fishing, go on long safaris to the famous Jim Corbett National Park (please note Jeep Safaris need to be booked in advance) or simply spend a night looking up at the amazing Milky Way.
And if you’d rather just reboot your mind, well this is the place to do it!
Home on the Ridge allows for a huge area for exploration right in the heart of the mountains. A perfect blend of raw nature meets comfort and privacy. Whether you decide to go on a long trek or dive into your favourite book while looking at the Himalayas, it will be an memorable experience.
The nature people, forest lovers, story seekers and the believers in slow travel. Those who are looking for a mountain hideaway. And love to be close to wildlife and are ready to soak it all in; all those who want to unplug from technology.
Not suitable for the elderly or for infants. Also not for those who are addicted to technology. Not for those who cannot live without electricity or the comforts of a regular hotel room. Not for large groups and demanding families since there are only two cottages.
