No one can deny the mood of February when Valentine’s day dawns. A day that celebrates love, promises, trust, support, respect and friendship between two people. Love is not just an emotion but a lifetime journey which entrenches deeply as time passes. This Valentine’s day, the team at the Unhotel decided to talk to couples who have embarked on the love journey quite literally! Their shared love for travel, exploration and curiosity is what makes them fall in love with each other over and over again.
Gurgaon based Pilates expert Taru and her corporate honcho husband Vishal entered matrimony sixteen years ago. As newlyweds, they had no clue that travel would become such a significant part of their lives. On their first trip together, they realized that they came back happier with a mutual urge to explore new places and cultures. They decided that each year, they would take a few days off and run away to a new destination sans friends, kids or relatives. They discovered the more they traveled, the more they opened up to each other. The fact that they worked as a team, could openly speak their hearts out and grow in their relationship made them look forward to these intimate trips. While Vishal is the meticulous planner and a bit of a romantic, Taru prides in taking it slow when on a vacation, soaking it all in. Sharing a tip, she says, “Don’t get too regimented on the schedule. A lazy three hour lunch not doing anything could be the highlight of your trip”. What about arguments? Taru laughs and says that it is one thing you can not take away from any relationship. Where there is love, there are some arguments and in her case the most common being Vishal’s extreme interest in the local transportation of the destination city. While Taru and Vishal go back and forth on deciding which public transport to experience, Satish and Anita love travelling on their own transport! A military man, Satish had a thing for bikes from the beginning. Getting married to Anita just took his interest to the next level. They fell in love with each other when they did their bike trips together. The first few trips after marriage was slightly mundane and they somehow did not seem to enjoy taking flights and trains. Anita fondly remembers the day when they took their first bike ride to Kasuali and Shimla from Delhi and they knew this was it. It did not take too long for Anita to hone up her biking skills on her Thunderbird 350 with Satish giving her company on his Classic 350. Since then they have not looked back. In nine years, they have done over twenty bike trails across the country. Their dream ride is India to Thailand, which they hope to fulfill soon. As a couple in love with bikes and adventure, Anita says that the endurance required in rough terrains requires physical and mental power. Travel has taken them to an entire new level of bonding. They are more patient with each other and value each other more. Looking at her husband lovingly, Anita says that to explore the brighter side of love, no therapy is required, all it needs is your partner to travel with, exploring the world together and finding happiness together in the small joys of life.Finding happiness together is also the mantra of Mr and Mrs Dwipal Bose. Being a senior citizen does not bother DK. With work and travel experience both spanning close to fifty years, this duo lives and loves to travel. In his early career, DK traveled extensively (as he was developing rural marketing strategies) which sparked his travel itch. And DK took his wife with him whenever possible. This young-at-heart-couple cannot imagine a life without travel. Setbacks in his wife’s health did not deter DK to continue traveling even if Mrs. Bose had to travel on a wheelchair. He has always felt that it was the only time he could really connect with his wife. The couple have been through tough roads in life. Looking at them is an inspiration to many. Traveling makes them complete. DK’s chronicles are listed in his personal blog https://dkboseblog.wordpress.com/
It is true that travel makes one a storyteller and this Valentine’s, it will perhaps help you romance your story!
