Guest Blogger Dinakshi Arora – a Wellness Coach, a freelance writer and a “Friend of Cinnamon” delves into her personal experience on what Travel does to her.
Travelling has always intrigued me…fascinated me. What is it about faraway places that invokes a heady mix of adventure and mystique. Romance. That fills the heart with a strange longing? To a vagabond at heart like me, travelling is a gift. And it is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. I shudder to imagine the kind of life we’d have if, for some reason, there was no travelling, and we were stuck in one place. No, there’s nothing wrong with the places we live in. Oh well, there is plenty wrong and plenty right, but that is not the point. Travelling is about expanding to new views, new dimensions and new horizons. It’s like getting out of the closed ghettos of our mind and breathing out in the open.
To me, travelling is a lot about soul searching as well. I believe every place has its own energy. That energy has a definite effect on us. No wonder going into nature after a long time of city humdrum has the effect of detoxification on your senses. It changes you from the inside. Everyone, no matter how much hooked to gadgets, yearns for serenity at some level. Cutting off from the daily rut and being with yourself is one form of wonder medicine to keep your sanity.
The person I like to go out most with – is me! There is always so much to discover about myself, that it amazes me. When I cut out the noise, I actually get to know myself – almost as if my own self is hidden in plain sight while I am in the thick of everyday routine. Travelling with myself, allows me to slow down, breathe, understand myself, and appreciate my own company.
Travel is defined by who we are…our personality, our desires, our dreams and it constantly evolves – be it parasailing, reading a book on a beach or exploring the food of a region. I’ve moved on from the idea of travel just being about seeing places, to using it as a medium – to explore myself. These days when I look at more and more options of travelling, I want to thank the universe.
Just a few years back, things weren’t so easy. If at all, there were those packaged sightseeing tours to a few famous places. Trying out new and unique places was something I wanted to do and life was made simpler with Unhotel’s carefully curated bouquet of retreats, lodges, homestays and unique experiences, that helped me discover a newer me!
